To build pathways and precedents for the ethical coexistence of all beings

Strengthen policy advocacy in Indonesia and beyond by addressing the inadequacy of political and law infrastructure to translate public support to a change.

Our Goals

Advanced welfare standards for individuals still subjected to the system

Established international trade policies that sever cross-border supply chains of animal products and/or live animals.

Speciesism became a mainstream issue within the SEA social justice movement.

Why?

We focus on evidence-based campaigns to generate more support from the public by cultivating awareness and change in perspectives towards animal exploitation, and as an entry to future advocacy on policy and law reform that emphasizes on animal well-being.

This strategy was developed based on insights we generated over our decade long activism, from which we identified some gaps in the animal advocacy scene in Indonesia:

  • The lack of grassroots mass-organizing efforts to support campaigns targeting institutional policy change.
  • Limited support, skepticism, and distrust of the general public because animal advocacy is perceived as an abstract, elitist agenda that doesn’t intersect with other social struggles.
  • Limited understanding of speciesism and systemic oppression within the animal advocacy movement.

To address these challenges, Strive is guided by three core pillars:

  • Produce investigations that highlight normalised abuse, which evoke public attention and awareness towards unjust practices in animal-dependent industries.
  • Mainstreaming animal advocacy as local and regional geopolitical issues, by collaborating with other organizations and foreign experts to address the inadequacy of legal and political infrastructures that can channel public support into change.
  • Conduct counterfactual actions based on situational analysis to challenge the status quo and change current institution standards and regulations that influence the well-being of animals, including but not limited to pressure campaigns.
